I love the 300 6. I just bought a 88 f150 with a bad 300 6 ( timing pin ). I have the old 300 6 out of my totaled 89 f150. Looking to make power because all my buddies hate I6's but my stock 6 kept up with a 305 chevy. I'm thinking cam, intake and exhaust stuff but what about head porting and electric fans and random stuff like that. I plan on spending some decent coin so maybe even a turbo. Give me some ideas and trans options rite now I have a AOD in the truck but I also have the C6 from the 89. Axle ratio is 3.55.

Well.. don't hate me but that ain't saying much but that also means it shouldn't be too hard to show em your taillights.

There are very few aftermarket goodies available for this motor and the stock cylinder head is the big choke point(it's about 1/2 the size it should be) so my suggestion would be to get a blower for it.. that will produce the most gains.
Are you keeping EFI or going carb? What ever way you go, make sure you get a correct cam or suffer engine ping! My rebuilt(got if off a friend who had it rebuilt) 89 300 I6 is .060 over and has a NON-EFI cam in it which makes it pings under load and has NO power under 2500 RPM. Which is not what I wanted in this engine at all. My 84 300 I6 only has a RV cam and that pulls down low and no ping at all.
I've researched it, there's a lot you can do but it's not cheap.
Hog the head out and make it actually flow. Get a computer friendly cam that will give you a longer power band. Get long tubes. Ported intake, bigger tb, bigger injectors. This would get you around 250 hp and closing in on the 400 tq range after you tackle tuning.
I wish you were closer to pa. I'd help you build a turbo setup for it.
Anything can be fast if you throw enough money at it.

I'd say start by giving the engine a complete going over. Tear it down, check it out, figure out what parts need replacing.
After knowing the minimum needing to be replaced, then you figure out your goal. If you want mean low end power, you'll up the compression. But if you want more midrange and upper end, with boost, then you're stuck with under 9-1 compression.
Major downfall is the head. It sucks. Bigger valves and porting is needed. Research what's been done and get back to us.
Research turbo stuff on here. There's a few that have done it.
Looking around it seems like a carbed motor I easier to build but I also found a lot of guys turboing 6's which kinda interests me so basically head work make it a different kinda animal

Do you have sources you would recommend for these parts? Thanks.
