Not to beat a dead hoss, you're both dead on. Two red/green stripe wires come off the same terminal on the ignition switch, the resistor wire ties into one of them downstream, and buried (more or less) in the harness under the dash.

In case you want to replace the alternator wiring harness, that's the one that goes from the alternator to the regulator.

The resistor wire on mine ('73 F100) was pink, on one end it terminated in a splice into a red/green wire near the speedometer. The other end terminated at the plug on the firewall for the gauge wiring harness. That's the one that goes to the oil and temp senders and the ignition coil.

Ok guys small update: I replaced the coil, ICM, cap, rotor, and firewall side plugs going to the ICM and the issue seems to have subsided. As stated earlier in the thread about bad connections, I found the the plugs going to the ICM had a bunch of scaly white stuff inside them and the female ends were green with corrosion. So between the bad connections and cheap parts that I replaced, I can bet the issue was in one of those things.

That white scaly stuff was probably what was left of the dielectric grease. if the new control module didn't have any grease in the sockets I strongly recommend getting a tube of it and putting some in each of the sockets. This will help avoid more problems down the road.

Don't worry I'm sure something else will break or get messed up. Hell I still haven't seen hide nor hair of that resistor wire. I do have one but...still haven't found it.

On another note, my starter is now grinding. It starts the truck fine, but when the engine starts there is a loud grinding noise. What sucks is that that was a new starter too.
