Cruise control

Hello guys. New guy here, always had a Ford pickup of some type as a daily driver, 3 Rangers, one F150, and 2 F250s. Mostly a learn as you go shade tree type mechanic. I don't know everything, but not quite a beginner. I have been struggling with my cruise control and I have never had to work on one before. The truck is a 2000 F250 Super Duty that I bought 10 years ago with 60k on it. I have maintained it pretty well (new bed, leaf springs, steering gear box, plugs, ect) but it is up to 187k and has always been plowed with. The drive train includes the Triton V10, automatic transmission, and manual transfer case. Here is how it started. It would start to hesitate when engaged when it was cold out as in 20 degrees or less. Then one cold morning at -12 degrees it worked a little bit and then stopped. I am ashamed to admit that the truck did over heat that morning because the cooling system froze up. It almost never gets that cold here in Ohio, and I thought I had enough antifreeze in but must not of. I believe it is just a coincidence that both happened the same morning though. Fast forward about a week, temperature came up to the low 30's and the cruise control started working again. It then got cold a few days later and the cruise control stopped working again. It has since warmed up ant the cruise will not work no matter what the temperature is. Here is what does happen. I turn the cruise on and then press set. I hear a faint click in the dash and the green "cruise" light comes on but the system does not take over the throttle. If I turn the cruise off or press the brake pedal the light goes off as it should. This is what I have tried. I checked the fuses inside of the dash pane, all where good. Throttle cable is not bound up, not sure how to check the cable on the servo motor as it is all in-cased in a sleeve. After some reading I did replace the vehicle speed sensor in the rear diff. I also checked any wire plug connections I could find. It does have the recall installed if that helps. The Chiltons book basically says I am not smart enough - take it to a dealer. Any advise would be appreciated, I do use it quite a bit but not really interested in a big bill for an old truck. Thanks!

Don't know if this helps, but I had a 2001 F150 Company truck, I had issues with the cruise in real heavy rains (never gets real cold in So. Miss), but, the cruise would work great until you were in pretty heavy rain, it was sent to the dealership on 2 occasions, I was told I had water getting on the wires running into the cab. It worked for a long time after the 2nd visit, but started again just before I got a new co. truck. But like I said the dealership said it was in the wiring. But mine would actually engage, then just drop off.

Inspect the connector on the brake pressure switch on front of the master cylinder. Look for fluid in the connector.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went back out and checked connections in that area. All seem to be tight and fairly clean. Also removed the brake pressure switch and checked for continuity. The switch has an ohm reading so it should be good. Could the fuse in the recall blown?

I think they have a clock spring from the wheel to the column? Just a guess, Artie

I don't know much about clock springs. How would that affect the cruise control, how would I go about fixing it?
