I got my truck a few months ago and have only got the cruise control to work just a couple times. It’s an early 99 so there is no indicator light if the cruise control is on or not. I thought it could be the third brake light (it was out) I changed it and went and drove it. It took a few times mashing the buttons but it worked for the rest of the drive turning it on and off. Next day it doesn’t work. What are some other things I could check or common failures cause if the cruise control to work intermittently? Thanks for the help
I’m no mechanic, but it sounds like the cruise control switch itself is going bad since you can get it to work after some effort. Maybe it’s full if crude inside snd you can either clean it (not sure if that’s possible) or replace it.
The cruise on my 2010 gasser worked intermittently and it turned out the pressure switch off the master cylinder was faulty. Replaced it and it's 100% now.

In my past experience, it is pretty common on the older trucks, that crud builds up on the on/off switch in the steering wheel, and you don't get a good connection. Might try lightly spraying some contact cleaner behind the switch. If that doesn't work, it is not hard to pull the airbag, and steering wheel to remove the switch and properly clean it.
I tested the brake switch and it was testing like it should so I cleaned my buttons, took it out and it worked fine.
Next day no cruise I really didn’t think it was the buttons so I tested the brake switch again and it was staying open. Changed it out and been working ever since.
Gotta love intermittent electrical
thanks for the help
I am having this issue also on my V10. I replaced the oil drenched pressure switch on the master cylinder and the light came on when I tried it so thats a step in the right direction. But now I just hear like a clunking sound from the top of the engine in the center. Like it's trying to engage but is broken or something? Does this sound familiar to anybody? Know the fix?
