Also known as a "quick fix" by PO ( PO was a gardener, I rescued this truck from a life of hard work) I am thinking he did as little as possible, just to keep this 1970 F250 2WD running.
Anyway, back to the super-secret kill switch. Directly below the ign switch, the PO mounted a simple toggle switch that must be on for the enging to run, and must be off to shut the engine off.
So, I am assuming a bad(stuck on) Voltage Regulator.
This switch has one wire cut into the red wire that runs between the + on the coil and the Dist. Other wire runs to the large + terminal on the solenoid.
I plan on, in the next day or two, removing the 135 amp alt from my sons '92 Sable, and installing it on my truck.
I guess my question is, does doing this alt mod solve my problem or does the PO switch create problems for my planned mod?
Not much of a wiring guy, but I can follow directions real gud
The resistor wire is the pink one from the ignition switch to the coil. If you replace it and the coil is not specifically marked as a 12v no external resistor needed then you need to run a resistor or it will fry the coil. This one would work: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ms...FecWMgodoXAA_w
I rewired a Jeep with the Summit 18circuit harness kit and it worked well. Before I scrapped the thing I pulled the kit back out and it will be going into my Courier once needed.

Courier!?!? Hmmm. Firewall mod and a 300 I6....................

That was a previous build attempt. 6" into the firewall, and the pulleys were right behind the grille with the radiator in the bed.
This one's going diesel with a Mercedes OM617.
Run a wire to the - or "dist" side of the coil then to a switch under the dash and a short wire to the other side of the switch and ground it. Try to conceal the wire. They will have to tow it or hijack you!
Looks like I will be delving a bit deeper into this. Earlier I picked up a new ignition switch, installed it, decided while I was there to have a look behind the dashboard for this pink resistor wire, and discovered that there was a wire with about 5 inches of the insulation melted off, and partially stuck to the pink resistor wire. Upon unsticking if from the pink wire, I seen the pink wire still had all of its insulation still on, so I tore the electrical tape off, and seen that the melted wire was red/brown, and also seen that there are two other wires, real close to where they are attached to the switch, that were also taped up.
Upon removing this tape, I discovered it is a heave gauge black and heavy gauge yellow which were damaged, also, there is a purple wire that is either a bit melted but most likely just chafed bare in one spot, perhaps a 1/4 inch long.
All in all, looks like I will be heading off the pick-a-part this weekend...it is their monthly 50% off weekend, and see if I can find the ign switch pigtail off of a willing donor.
Will probably also get the 3G alt for that swap while there, perhaps some GT40 heads as well.

It tells who does what to whom, how the switch is supposed to control what wires and what the gear ratios are for the electric dog polisher (ok, I made up that last bit).

I think I'd rather ground out the field side of the coil, same as the ignition switch does.
