Trying to replace or repair the door panels on a 72 F100 Ranger. I ordered new panels from A1 Auto..but they were to small. The size of the panels are like the ones out of a F250 but the holes for the arm rest etc. are different.
Could try to replace the backing board but would be better to get reproductions.
Yes, 2 different styles, small style and full style....seems you have full style. The catalog I use clearly shows the difference, but I am not sure on the posting rules for the site, so I won't post who the catalog is from, but I can probably do it in an email or such....or, if you know it is ok, I can post it here.
However, when I got my '70 F250, and the interior was thrashed, I went to Lowes, bought a sheet of 3/16 dense fiberboard, cut out both door panels and roof liner panel and had them all reupholstered, reinstalled, looks awesome, no warpage or sagging after 7 months so far, and temps have ranged from about 35 to 90 degrees so far.
Also, on your panels, is it just 4 small round holes for the different handles and armrest, or the bigger square cutout for the door handle and small round cutout for the window crank? Or is it both?
Mine is the bigger square cutout for the door handle and small round cutout for the window crank. The fiber board is a good idea. Did you do the job yourself or have someone do it??
I think its ok to mention sites. LMC, Upholstery guys or MAC??
Well, I have read too many scary posts about LMC....not sure I ever want to try anything from them.
Yes, as far as removing my panels, removing upholstery from my panels, fabbing new panels...sizing, retainer holes, window crank and door handle holes etc...even installing the new upholstery, although I did have my neighbor make the new upholstery...I supplied the foam, material and fabric glue, he just sewed the foam to the material, and did the complete seat for me, I took the new door upholstery and roof lined and did those my self, after he sewed the foam and pattern into them.
Actually went real well, went with a black tweed interior, I think it looks quite nice.
Oh, the catalog I was referring to earlier was from a company called Truck and car shop. over here in Orange County...they have free catalogs, takes 2-3 weeks to get one, but can be ordered at www.truckandcarshop.com They also have an online catalog you can reference while you wait for your paper one.
It's usually a good idea to go with our sponsors.
Did you check back with 1A ?
I've dealt with them before and if there was a problem it was very promptly corrected.
Actually they are the ones I ordered the Interior Door Panels from first. The panels arrived in about 3 weeks and I immediately called them directly when I opened the box. Within an hour they approved the return/refund and provided a shipping label. Package went out this morning.
