I will be repainting my 72 F100 and had to replace one door that came with a metal panel. The original ones were vinyl covered and not in good shape. I don't have access to the truck right now, it is 100 miles away. I need to pick up one and would like to know if they were any diferences between the years.
'67 had different door handles inside. The panel is different because of that. '68 and newer had door handle inside the arm rest, the '67 had the big seperate handle that you lift up to open, push down to lock door.
I think the vinyl cover is an upgrade option from like a "custom" to a Ranger or Ranger XLT.
Hmm, after looking at the 71 brochure (pg 4-5) I think mine is a "Custom" because I don't have interior wood trimming or chrome triming on the outside nor cigarette lighter.
I think maybe someone put the door trim of a Sport Custom & glove compatrment of a Ranger.
I went over to the salvage yard and found one today. They just gave it to me, county is trying to close him down and make him clean it up. He said if they succeed he will just let me come in and take everything that I want. He has about 10 1967 - 1972 Ford trucks. I was also looking for a battery tray/holder, found one on a 72. It was almost like new, only had one small spot of rust on it. Must have been a replacements, because when you see them there all ate up.
My '71 Sport Custom has a Ranger emblem on the glove box door. It gave me fits identifying this thing until I bought the '71-'72 brochure reprint (or whatever it is) from motorhaven. I highly recommend that book.
