Fuel gauge non-functional

I'm hopeful someone else has some advice where I should look first to fix my fuel gauge. The truck sat unused for 10 years and I have no info on whether the gauge worked before it was parked. I've tried the usual test by grounding the wire leading away from the sending unit to see if the float is the issue but the gauge still doesn't respond. Is there a "usual" problem that anyone knows of that can make the fuel gauge not work or do I need to start tracing every wire involved?

Do the other gauges work?

There is a plug on the back that pushes into the vinyl overlay in the back of cluster with the printed circuit on it. Time to inspect it closely.

If I recall, the fuel wire is orange. Follow it back to the plug and see if it is connected.

2X above. I think once you remove the cluster assembly and look at the back of it you'll prolly see the problem.

When I first got my truck, neither of the tanks would register on the fuel gauge. I ended up pulling both sending units...both were ok, traced every wire, new printed circuit on cluster, new instrument cluster voltage regulator and still nothing. Finally just started taking the connection points apart and cleaning them, one at a time, and eventually, from the wiring pigtail that is needed to go to the tank selector switch, the barrel connector on the orange wire was corroded, cleaned up both the male and female, plugged it back in, and voila, both senders work.

Be patient, clean all electrical connections before laying out big bucks for parts you don't have to.
