2006 F150, FX4, 5.4, super crew. Had the infamous airbag code 42 flashing at me the other day, replaced the sensor in the front of the radiator support, and am still getting the same code. The old senser had some corrosion inside the sensor itself, but the connections were clean on both the sensor and the pigtail. Is there something I may have missed?
Did you disconnect the negative battery cable before you replaced the sensor? I just did this and my indicating light has been off since. I also used dielectric grease on the new sensor before connecting and after cleaning with electrical cleaner.
Yeah, had the batt disconnected, cleaned the terminals and applied dielectric grease to the sensor. Maybe I'll try disconnecting the batt and unplugging the sensor and rep lugging it back in for poops and grins.
Nope, didn't work. Unhooked neg cable, did a couple of little things, unplugged the sensor for a couple of minutes, reversed process, still have code 42. Stumped.
So I just fixed my kids f150 airbag light using the information here on the site. In my case the sensor was fine. Wasn’t cracked or corroded. My problem was a bad ground. The bolt was rusted and the threads were rusted and the surface was rusted. So after sanding the surface and tapping the threads clean and replacing the rusted bolt. I still have no good ground. So I got out my meter. And sure enough hi resistance. We all forget that the support is held on with three bolts. And hidden under plastic covers. I have a great ground in the cross member. But not on the airbag mount.sure enough the upper bolts on the bracket looked like the have been in the ocean. So I cleaned all the surfaces greased everything, including the bolts washer surfaces. Now I have good grounds. Turned the key on. It went through its self diagnoses and the light went out. Just because you think you have cleaned everything. Without a meter you really can’t tell. I know this is an old thread. But hope this helps someone.
