Hello All - first post here. We're the new owners of a 2001 E350 EB 15 passenger with the quigley conversion. Replaces our old Vanagon.
We have pop-open windows on the front barn door, and also on the side window immediately behind the driver. I'm wondering if there is some sort of retrofit for the other barn door window and the other large side windows - either a pop open conversion, or a replacement with a sliding panel window or something of the sort.
Having AC will be a big upgrade from the old Vanagon - but we mostly like to roll with windows open. More air would be better.
If these are the factory stock windows it would be possible to refit the fixed pieces with hinged parts. Once you've found a donor van next step would be removing existing glass then simply bolting in the gently used replacements.
This sounds far easier than it is assuming your van is the Club Wagon version, as equipped from the factory. Plastic trim panels covering great expanses of the sides are your biggest "challenges"----they are not easily removed and replaced unless you're familiar with auto interiors.
I say this being in the auto glass biz, have done simple replacements on Club Wagons---HATE IT!
I think Bob means opening windows for the fixed panes over the rear axle also. AFAIK no 92-14 Econoline has factory opening windows in those positions. The cost-effort balance might work in your favor to replace entire rear doors with opening windows. Mind the rust. IIRC, E150, regular length E350 and extended E350 of a considerable year model span use interchangeable rear doors.
Can't be sure which windows he's referring to honestly----maybe he needs to clarify that, at least for me?
OTOH any factory fixed glass can be swapped with the optional movable parts without huge effort, apart from the interior trim R&I ordeal. Rear windows would be very easy, a mere 4 bolts holding the glass and hinges to the door shell, two more holding the latching mechanism to the door shell too.
Club Wagons did have barn door, rear door and middle window drivers side available as movable. The pieces above the rear axle are fixed, never offered as movable.
