Are our DRW with their over 8500 GVW rating OBDII compatible?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about buying a scanner to keep in the truck if I have any CEL's. Have not had any yet, but I wouldn't mind having one.
Thinking about an Innova 3100g. Any ideas if this is a good choice or not? I guess this would reset CEL's if for example I get the dreaded exhaust sensor gone bad??? I have no experience with these tools, sure would appreciate any help before I buy one. It looks like this about a $150 scanner. Is this good enough??
I have the Edge CTS scanner, works fine. It's a very nice addition if you are not planning on tunning your truck. I can view and clear codes plus monitor lots of stuff that is going on with the motor.
ScanGaugeII will do what you are looking for, plus it will monitor many different items. Not as many can be displayed as with the Edge, but for $159 it's a bargain. It is smaller and can be mounted in many different locations in the truck. However, SGII does recommend that you don't mount it on top of the dash in direct sunlight due to the heat that can get generated from the sun.
Good Luck,
FWIW, I have my SGII programmed to where I can monitor the temps of all 4 EGT sensors, though I only keep an eye on 1&4 ususally. By doing this I can see when the truck has entered and running a Regen, well that and I can also watch my MPG drop like a rock. I also monitor the MPH, because the truck speedometer is off and the SGII is dead on accurate. The 4th most often watched gauge is the DIS (distance since last regen).
Thanks guys. It sounds like edge and scan gauge are really nice devices. I have to admit I'm more interested in just viewing CEL's and the ability to reset them. I can tell your devices are more informative and give up to the minute real world readings.
I was more interested in reading of and resetting CEL's. Are the DRW's with their larger GVW still OBDII compliant or not? I read something that suggested the larger GVW Ford diesels may not be OBDII compliant. Sure no use in buying a scanner if this is true. The Innova looked pretty good, was wondering if any of you have one or could recommend Actron or something else that would be better.
I have to admit I'm not nearly as tech savvy as some of you younger guys are. However I'd like to read the CEL's when away from home and at least have a chance to fix it if possible. I have NOT had and CEL's, but maybe if I buy a scanner this will insure me of not having any...............You know that old "safe rather than sorry" philosophy.

If you live anywhere near a Harbor Freight store they have some nice code readers(that can reset) for $50-$75. Thats where I picked mine up a year or so ago.
So any of you guys with Innova, Actron etc that is around $150 that you have used and like. I don't really want to mount a device on my dash, just use when a dreaded CEL arises. I do have a Harbor Freight not to far away, I didn't know if they were any good or not??
