Take a look at auto enginuity if the vehicles are all Ford
Sent from my Telegraph using IB AutoGroup
Auto Enginuity will work on all vehicle brands, but you have to buy all the licenses. If you buy the Ford enhanced version, you will be able to read all Ford vehicles. They offer various bundles from brand specific to Domestic, Asian, European or a complete package. Auto Enginuity
The basic Ford package is $399. Bundle packages get well over $1000! It seems like a lot of money, but it is much more than a simple code reader.
Launch makes a few good scan tools in that price range . I own 3 launch scan tools . They don't do as much as my Modis or my OTC , but good basic scan tools .

I am fully aware of that. For his budget the Ford package will work if he has multiple Ford vehicles. If he has other makes then he will need more expensive packages.
THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY'S that looks to be very useful ,looks like we should buy the ford package with 7 vehicles between dad and myself it should come in handy , I'm not liking the fact that we are relying so heavily on computer controlled vehicles , don't get me wrong they are great till the warranty is over .
WOW!!!! I was thinking of recommending a ScanGaugeII for around $159. Reads a bunch of different gauges straight out of the box. More can be custom programmed and it will Scan to read codes.
Not to mention it will read any vehicle with an OBDII connector.
But, you all are talking $1,000 and up scan tools. I'm now embarrassed to recommend the SCII.
My personal (cheap) preference is just get a bluetooth OBDII connector, and download an app that can work with your phone.
Less than $30 for the app and the connector together.
They won't work with every code, but it will get most of them.

X2
They are new code updates as time goes on and they have other features like logging and graphing..etc
I did notice a tool catalog at work today that had an OTC code reader on the front page. It was $199 and is a universal code reader. I didn't read the whole thing but from what I understood, it is supposed to read all systems including airbags.
Big350, what OBDII blue tooth reader and app did you find that works. I did some searching and there is alot of them out there. I'm confused. I also use an Iphone and did not see an app for bluetooth connection. Any help would be appreciated. I do have some old programmers for the 6.0L, could a person use one of them to just read codes?

My experience is that the non engine (airbag etc.) codes change and evolve, and I very much doubt that all manufacturers will be supported for all years (although willing to be pleasantly surprised )

Your 6.0l programmer should be able to read engine codes from newer Fords (I think) if it can read codes from your 6.0l. I don't know if it will work with other makes however, or read more advanced codes, I suspect it will not.
