Okay guys I have a 96 F350, 4x4, auto powerstroke. I bought the truck a fewonths ago and the battery light has always stayed on. Last week it blew the number 9 maxi fuse on the interstate. I found the glow plug relay to be shorting out. I unhooked it and the truck stopped blowing the fuse and started. I replaced it and all seemed well until yesterday. I went out and started it up and it would idle for a minute and then die. Then it got to the point it wouldn't start and the dash board is going crazy. So far I've tried unhooking the relay but the little idm relay in the fuse panel is going nuts clicking as well. I swapped IDM's no change, had alternator tested and load tested the batteries. Its a stock truck and I need it back up and running. Here is a video of what its doing. VID_20140302_123620_186_zps1j8vb1lo.mp4 Video by dazedandconfused1982 | Photobucket
Have you checked all your wiring connections at the battery? How about the grounds where they connect to the body or block?
Is the wire to the fuel bowl heater still hooked up? It would be the middle wire on the side of the fuel bowl. It looks to me like the PCM relay is resetting and that's why the lights are blinking like they are. If that wire is still connected, try unplugging it and see what happens. Also, if you haven't already try swapping the PCM fuse with one of the other ones under the hood. Try that and report back and we'll go from there.
The fuel bowl is still plugged in as far as I know. I'll unplug it when I make it back out there. I cleaned batteries and post. The hot side on the driver side broke on it though but its still snug and I plan to replaced it. I don't know where the body grounds are but I'm going to pull the block grounds and check them. It puzzles me why the battery light stays on or flashes. It was freezing rain and snowing yesterday and I was pissed so I left it. Thanks for the info.
The battery light may stay on because of a loose connection on the single wire that goes in on the top of the alternator. That's not an uncommon issue on these because of the angle that the wire comes out of the alternator and the close proximity to the insulation on the bottom of the hood.
The way the lights are blinking I'm betting you can hear a relay under the hood clicking or chattering too can't you? That sounds to me like there is a short on the system drawing the power to the PCM down far enough that the relay is cutting in and out. It won't start like that, that's for sure.
Yeah its chattering like crazy. The valve cover harness on the passenger side has been repaired and I looked over the wiring but its all sealed up and I can't see anything touching. I guess I'll try to pull that apart a bit more to trace wires.
Check the connection to the IPR where the harness plugs in. Over time fuel and oil will melt the wire insulation causing them to short out. IPR is fused by number 9.

Forgive my ignorance but which one is the IPR. I know what your talking about but I'm still learning where everything is on these.
If you are standing on the bumper looking down on the top of the engine, the IPR is on the right side of the HPOP. You almost have to get the fuel bowl out of the way to get to it as its sort of tucked away behind and down farther than you might think.
The more I think back I did have a issue the other night when I got it back together not wanting to idle and dieing for a few minutes then it cleared up. It had an iratic idle the rest of that day and straightened up. I'm guessing that may be part of my issue and be the IPR.
Okay so the truck is sitting at my folks right now. My dad has been trying to eliminate things he has been told to check. He swapped batteries out of his just to see and no change. It started acting up so he unplugged the valve cover harnesses and it continued. I'm going to check the wiring to the IPR and unplug the fuel heater. Can anyone think of anything else I should chec

What does this mean? He knows it won't run with those harnesses unhooked right? Those have the wiring in them for the injectors. Not trying ot be smart, just making sure I'm understanding what we're doing here.

Yeah he knows this but its still going crazy like in the video I posted flashing the lights and chattering the relay. He was trying to eliminate a short in the valve cover gasket or wiring causing the issue.
