Semper Paratus , BOV

Hi Guys
So yes I'm the new guy here, but after searching my eyes out I was not able to find something that is dear to me and the only reason for my X.

With a little push, and blessing from a forum friend I decided to start this.

I have been the proud owner of many SUVs, but they all served just one purpose, Semper Paratus (Always Prepared).

All vehicles have pros and cons, some more than others. But the X is one that can do many things well. That one thread I believe missing is one about BOV/SHTF.

In one former forum I was a member we had a group dedicated to this and I hope some of you guys out there might get interested. It was fun, we had weekend outings, camping etc. and at one point some even used their vehicles or skills to use in real situations.

Some of those themes could be;

Generators
Solar Panels
Bug Out Bags
Armoring
Driving Techniques
Vest, First Aid
Communications

In other words, a self sufficient vehicle that would require very little to be many things,

Shelter
Command Post
PSD
Etc.

Yes, I know what your thinking, You might be having a good just about now.

But my experience in terrible situations here and overseas, has made me what we called "controlled and stable paranoia", You have seen it in well trained police officers, they are always checking their duty belt.

Well to start out, until I pay and be able to post pics...

WarX

Self Contained WiFi and Cell Booster,
Laptop with GPS and Multi Camera DVR, includes an expansive library of laws and helpful guides.
Highly modified CB Radio, Marine and HAM
Removed 3rd row (working on a shelf system)
Several Bags, such as Advance First Aid, Tools, Personal Items.
Chargers all of configuration
1500watt Converter
Fridge
Dash Cam
and most have redundant systems, and still working on it, until it meets or exceeds what I had before I got the X.

List goes on...

I can with little problem live on the WarX if need be, even have electric blanket for the Co-Pilot to keep her warm.

Well, enough What do you think....Any takers ?

Imagine how cool to see a caravan of X down the road, ready for anything..

I tried to do an all purpose rig with my Excursion. There is enough room and payload.

Coms, medical, fierarms, ammo, NBC protection, personal armor, power, water, solar, 3rd battery, Invertor etc is all easy. Level 3A armor is easy. Level 4 standalone is heavy and expensive through but doable.

Roof tent could provide shelter and if you really want to get creative go with CARC paint since it is low signature and radar absorbing.

You will also want to do a blackout light conversion and have plenty of tape to cover up all the shiny reflective surfaces.

The best setup in my opinion would involve a pintle mounted expeditionary trailer with the same wheels and size as your primary rig. This will give you greater range due to being able to carry extra supplies and depending on the size of your group you could use it as a temp. base camp with a ham radio station, self contained solar setup and inverters without having to haul all the weight in the primary rig.

Let me think on it a bit more....

Something like this. It could be a portable supply/power and base camp station.

The diesel forum has had threads touching on EMP-proofing a rig. Since Excursions come in both gas engines and diesel engines, how can both camps provide protection from an EMP event?

Count me in, I am slowing building my Ex for those scenarios should I ever need it. Definitely will be subscribed for ideas and to show my progress. I have been looking for either old tent trailers like the Apache or appleton styles from 60's that are basically canvas tents that fold up to set up with same tires, extra fuel tank with pump to transfer to Ex and other equipment.

EMP is not an issue on modern vehicles. Nothing short of 50kv/m will affect a vehicle that is not running and it would take a 20-30 megaton high altitude detonation to create that kind of power (there isn't anything that large in any countries nuclear arsenal).

If it is running, 9-10 of them will restart with no problems other than annoyances like blinking dash lights. The vehicles body itself acts as a large Farday cage.

Its been extensively tested and even discovery channel did a test on future weapons.

EMP requires long/ungrounded cabling to be effective. Things like power lines.

Stewart I plan on doing a 12V Cummins swap to mine here soon, just can't decide if I should go manual trans or find a non electronic auto in case the wife has to drive it. So it will be EMP proof. Actually making my wife nervous since I started looking into prepping and doing this stuff. I told her you never know, hope it never happens or to need bug out.

That roof tent is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I see how it is supported in 3/4 corners, I wonder how that last corner does. Does the ladder provide support as well or does that come up at night perhaps?

You would have to go with a manual if you believe that and EMP will affect the rig. The non electronic 47RH auto for the Cummins, while mechanical does rely on a throttle position sensor to shift gears. You could build up a 727 trans but it doesnt have OD. Even the Ford EOD requires an electric sensor.

If (99% unlikely) an EMP affected the Cummins, the only other electrical part on the 12V is the crank sensor and that is only for the tach to read RPM's. It only needs electricity to engage the starter.

Blacking the X is number one, mine happens to be black, I have the windows so dark you cant see in...

Also getting some tint on the windshield...check you local laws..

With my dashcam or NVG's (scared the S*** of the co-pilot on a country road once) you can drive with no lights..been thinking about some infrared on the roof, but they work both ways if you know what I mean.

"I DON"T RECOMMEND doing this UNLESS YOU TRAIN HARD and in a private place to do it"

You on the right track.....I have seen the military trailers conversion as you posted, some of the FJ and Jeep guys had some, the issue ?? was getting them around hard terrain but not impossible, but great for a base camp.
