This is almost exactly what I want to do to my truck. Are you running an intercooler?
Not at the moment but Im looking for one to use. With these kind of pressures it would be pretty beneficial I think. I got it running again today and ran it down the road I checked to see how hot the plenum was after a good run it was warm but not scalding hot like I thought it would be. I guess it helps that I have a true cold air intake and a endless supply of cold air. I think the plenum would be ice cold with the inner cooler. I also noticed my EGT's are very manageable staying around the 300* range cruising and 800* on the hill climb. There is a hill on the other side of the island I want to try to see how it does on it now, I used to have to get a running start at it.
Your egts are better than mine. Mine runs about 400 cruising and if I push it uphill, especially a dead stop, I can hit right at 1000. Funny thing is, that it's not much difference at all if I'm pulling my fifth wheel. I got an intercooler from a newer superduty for just over 100$. Just haven't put it in yet. Glad to hear that its doing good.
I just finished rebuilding my engine with the R&D Stage 1 cam, RD2 injection pump, and some of NMB2's injectors, new IDIT heads w/ ARP studs. After priming fuel into the system (and reading the instructions for the cam) it started right up, really smokey, but I advanced the pump timing a bit and it was much better. I took it for it's first test drive and pegged out the 15 psi. boost gauge before I hit 2500 rpm and if i had to guess it was up in the low 20's psi I backed off of it at about 3000rpm the difference in power is incredible!!!!!! This thing runs awesome! I do have a couple leaks I need to figure out before I have it back as my daily driver but I am really impressed with the performance of this setup! Thank you Racin'!!!
I want to add a reference point here:
My own 7.3 is worn, has 200-300K miles on it(but still has ~400PSI cyl pressures).
Stock cam.
I've got the wastegated sidewinder kit.
I've got decent cheap rebuilt injectors in there, which I recently checked and all are popping around the same pressure(2K PSI I think).
With my worn, stock pump turned up, I can hit 10PSI around 2200RPM... But in my case, the wastegate prevents it from getting any higher, and so it stops it's exponential power curve around there.
I also don't have head studs, so I don't want to push it much beyond that.
The feeling is great, in any case.
Now, when I rebuild my engine, I've got a better cam to put in(Typ4 torque cam), and will use a better pump and studs, but it's pretty decent now.
Okay so I'm new to the whole forum thing, not really good with performance on diesels, especially around the 6.9 idi era. I have a 85 f250 6.9 idi, was leaking from every where, so I pulled the engine, trans, and transfer case. Now that engine is out, I really want to beef it up. I was reading on a forum that is you put a turbo on a 6.9 idi that you would have to install beefed up connecting rods? Please help me with this. Again I'm not sure if this is the right area, but I seen y'all we're discussing 6.9 idi performance upgrades
Thanks, Ryan
Waiting for the pictures of this build. Sounds like you got all the right parts.
I got all the right parts but I installed one part wrong so I have been busy fixing my dumb mistake I might have time tomorrow to make the build thread with pics.
Minime make a new thread in this forum I will be glad to answer your questions.
