If you can't find one premade for the truck. Try a tack store or horse feed store. A stall mat is usually 4x8 or 5x8 comes in various thickness can be cut with a good carpet knife or saber saw.

That's a good tip. I just looked at a stack of them at the local Tractor Supply Co here. They are only $38
Never thought about the stall mats - good idea. Some guys in the nearby coal counties use old conveyor belts that are disposed of, heavy and hard to cut but great protection and cheap. Don't know if there is anything like that near you. Ditto on taking it out when not using to keep down rust and wood rot if a wood bed.
Our local farm store also sells 4' wide material by the foot in 1/4" and 1/2" thicknesses. If you have ever tried to move a full thickness stall mat that size, they can be challenging - let alone lifting it back in.
I saw those mats at the tack store. They come in two thicknesses and sizes. I'm sure they would be great protection for the bed. Just have to find a place to store it when it's out...
If you have a newer truck with a bed liner , one of those mats will save the back of the cab , if you stop quick , with a pallet of sandblast sand . ask me how I know . After I jacked the cab rear wall out and replaced the window [ on my brothers truck ] I put a mat in and he never had a problem with things sliding . I have one on the floor of my 54 panel it keeps the rug cleaner , when I haul stuff .
I just looked at the Tractor Supply website (no stores near me) at these 4x6 stall mats. They weigh 100 lbs each! That surprised me. It says that the mats are vulcanized so I would have to assume that they don't hold water...not to say that they won't trap moisture under them. I would love to get my hands on one just to see what it looked like. It's a shame that there are no Tractor Supply stores in SoCal...maybe if they started carrying golf clubs or surf boards we could get one.
Stall mats do not hold water that's why they are used in stalls. Saves on shavings keeps the stall dryer Also your sure the horse is not going to be rubbed raw from the crushed stone most stalls have. I have 3 old ones on floor of work area - keeps floor warmer and softer to stand on. Only thing to be careful of is if moister gets under them you could get mold. Have fun.
Go on line and look up stall mats . there are places that will send you samples . Our tractor supply has a roll of rubber 1/4 x 48 that you can get as long as you want . I t is sold by the ft .
Thanks everyone. My truck is garaged and I don't plan on driving in the rain. So I'm not worried about rust. The stall mats sounds good. We have a D&B and I'll check them. Thanks again.

You can get them from other places. I found them at a store that sells pet food and supplies for horses. Do a Google search for stall mats in your area.
