Would the 185 be the best for just a stock replacement? I'm not running much in the way of electronics, but have only registered 13.7 or so volts when running down the highway. My batteries are on their way out and I would like to upgrade the alt at the same time that I do the batteries.
Unlike Sarge I pretty much don't run anything other than what the truck has. I'd say yes, it's perfect for an OEM replacement.....that unlike the OEM, actually makes enough power to run the truck at idle and keep a charge on the batteries, rather than putting a drain on everything.
I thought I was crazy but after I installed mine, I found others that noticed the same thing I did, the truck ran better. I guess with the electronic power demand these trucks have, having more than adequate power at all times is crucial.
DC has the 185 dor $298 plus $25 shipping. Quick search and I found a website with the DC alternator for $298 and free shipping.
When you are ready to order, quote the site that you find that price on and we'll beat it.
The 185 amp unit is a pretty solid replacement for the factory unit. Sales on the new'ish 190 amp HD series are getting up there, too, though since for $369.95 delivered (with its newly lowered price) you could get 140 amps at cold idle (when it MOST matters as that is when you glow plugs are running) instead of the 120 amps that the 185 produces. Of course, the 250HD does 165 amps at cold idle, but is more yet at $449.95 delivered.
Just want to throw this out there... If DC is so hard to get a hold of for simple questions what's the warranty process going to be like?

I think he meant, and as is customary and generally regarded as proper forum etiquette, to contact them directly and he'll work out personal pricing for you (or anyone else) when you're ready to buy.
