Can anyone give me a diagram that labels all of the wires leaving the ignition box? I bought a msd 6al ignition box and am installing it. It shows me what the wires are supposed to connect to but the thing wont start so I want to make sure everything is matching the correct wires. Any help would be appreciated. My truck is a 77 f250 4x4 manual transmission with the 400
Ignition module wire colors have been erroneously swapped over the years, both in the 2-terminal connector and 4-terminal connector. The cheaper the module, the more likely it is. Therefore, it's much safer to specify what wire is what coming from the TRUCK, which I have done below:
Two-terminal connector:
1) RED with BLUE stripe: hot-in-START. This goes to a WHITE wire on almost all modules.
2) WHITE: hot-in-RUN. This goes to a RED wire on almost all modules. These two signals must NOT be tied together to create a "hot in RUN and START" signal.
Four-terminal connector:
1) GREEN: trigger out to the negative terminal of the coil.
2) BLACK: ground (tied at the distributor).
3) ORANGE: one side of the pickup module (variable reluctance sensor).
4) PURPLE: other side of the pickup module.
