I have a 1994 Mazda B3000 (Ford Ranger) and am going to install a 5.5 inch lift with 35 inch tires. I know this can be hard on the motor, should I consider installing a cold air intake ? Would this really even help enough to consider getting one, I don't want to be sluggish once I upgrade.Anybody have any experience with any of this, any suggestions??

 

You probably won't be able to notice any performance improvement over the stock air cleaner assembly. You will however see a huge loss of acceleration performance unless you swap to 4.10 or 4.56 axles to keep the RPM's up into the 3.0L's torque range. This issue is why Ford specified a 4.0L engine if you ordered 31x10.5 R15 tires (P265/75R15) as well as 3.73 axles.

 

You gotta do gears or it s gonna be slow. No mater what you do to the intake and exhaust, you still have a poor flow, pushrod v6 motor with just 2 valves per cylinder.

If you switch to a different gear ratio, you will get better results.

 

Well you're gonna be very disappointed. Is your truck auto or manual? I have two 3.0L Rangers here and the one with 4.10 gears is the only one that I would even consider putting larger tires on but even then nothing bigger than 32's. For 35s this truck should have 4.56 to 5.13 gears and especially of it has an auto trans.

 

I have the manual, looks like im going to be changing the gear ratios..
