what can i give my 01 f150 w/ 4.6 more power? i wanna burn some rubber!! lol.. i have a suspension lift on it with 35's. i was thinking a cold air intake and a chip with a flowmaster? well that be enough? or do i need to aim higher?
a CAI will give you 1-3 hp at 5000 rpm.... a flowmaster will do nothing but hurt performance - may as well stick with the stock intake (which is a cold air style anyways) and the stock muffler unless if you want something more free flowing (which the flowmaster is not). A tuner will help and will allow you to correct your speedo for those big tires. Now the lift and 35's are doing nothing to help you in the power/performance/fuel economy departments. What you need is gears! and low ones. 4.56 or maybe a 4.88 will bring back some pep to your truck and you will get back a few mpg's. But it will be expensive unless you do the work yourself.
advocate is refering to the gears in your rear differential. (Axel) i am assuming you have a 4x4 so then you also would need to do the gears in your front differential. putting better gears compensate for the bigger tires. this should probably be done no mater what else you do. but it is certainly not something you have to do. it is probably just the best thing to do. now if you want more juice from the engine, i have found on here that you cant do a whole lot to the 4.6 without dropping some serious coin. you can always bore it out to a 5.0 and do some other things here and there, but if you go to that much trouble you would be better off getting a 5.4 rebuilt or rebuilding it yourself and swaping it into your truck.
basically you tear the engine apart and then machine the cylinders to a larger diameter. then you have to put larger pistons in. and while your that far, most people will comepletely rebuild the engine and put more performance parts in the engine.
you can get a tuner... but those only really help when you run premium fuel. and then its a question of: is the gain worth the cost. if you want more power go to a closer to stock tire size. or as i have been told, drive something like a mustang.lol you have to remember that is a heavy a$$ truck with big ol tires.... what you see is what you get.lol
ya ik, ugh oh well.. thank you for the advice. i was kinda wanting to make it in to a dune bugg or something similar to that, but guess i need a bigger engine for that. is there away i can lighten it up a bit>? besides the tires?
well for parts this is my list.
K&N FIPK Air Intake Kit, BBK 3pc Underdrive Pulley Kit, Diablosport Predator Tuner,
Flowmaster Force II Catback Exhaust System,
well for parts this is my list.
K&N FIPK Air Intake Kit, BBK 3pc Underdrive Pulley Kit, Diablosport Predator Tuner,
Flowmaster Force II Catback Exhaust System,
If you add up all the money from that parts list,
you would have enough money to put the proper gears in.
I think you'll be much happier with the gears!!!!!
I had an '02 with a 4.6L, 7.5" suspension lift, 35" tires and I wanted more power. I bought an intake...no more power. In fact, I thought it was worse. I bought exhaust...no more power. I bought a programmer and that I liked. Then I bought gears and liked it better. I think gears and a programmer will be about as good as you're going to get without going broke.
The factory air cleaner assembly is better than a so called CAI that sucks in hot air. Stay away from KN. The oiled filters can foul the MAF anyway. They also do not filter as well. There is really no gain to be had except for noise. I had the FIPK on my truck for a little while and it got worse fuel economy and didn't seem to run as well either. In my opinion FIPK and similar CAI setups are junk.
Also, do not waste your money on throttle body spacers, thats only good for a paper weight.
If you want to get an exhaust system get a straight through muffler NOT a chambered one like Flowmaster. With 35s I would say gears are going to be the best thing you can do. You may not like the underdrive pulleys. Your accessories may not work as well.
Just get the differentials regeared. Thats the only way to get the power back.
Gears will get your truck to about what it was when it was stock (before the 35" tires). I drive a lot of highway so I chose not to go any lower than 4.56's. What's your driving style? How much freeway/highway driving vs. city driving do you do? How fast do you drive on the highway? And how much of a lift do you have? Believe it or not, there is a lot more wind drag the taller your lift gets.
About the intake. Stay with your stock intake and do whats called the "Gotts Mod" to it. It looks all stock but the mod helps airflow. You can look it up on this site or Google it. The stock airbox that surrounds the filter does a better job at keeping the intake air cooler than aftermarket intakes.
And if you're going to buy a tuner, consider buying one from a custom engine tuner like Power Hungry Performance. They take into consideration all the mods on your truck and write customs tunes specifically taylored for your truck and your needs. I bought the Gryphon model (an Edge Evolution on steroids) because of the digital display and its dash mounted.
well my driving style is pretty much all city, school, baseball field then work. i hardly ever go highway, but when i do i like to push the speed limit =)..
could you point out a good exhaust system please..My lift i think its a 3 or 3.5in.
So what gears do i need?
