Hello. I have a 99 expy,4wd, 165k. It just started to buck and stumble, with an accompanying old school knocking and pinging noise, while driving up slight grades. If I goose it or take the overdrive off, so the motor spins faster, the problem goes away. I was thinking that it seems to be fuel starved. I do need to change my fuel filter but my lines are rusty I am afraid of snapping anything. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for the suggestions. I too was thinking cop's but no check engine light yet. I have been trying to see/reach/feel the boot at the back of the manifold but I just cannot fit my sausage fingers back there to feel if it is soft or a hole or whatever. I bought the fuel line disconnect clips and am going to try to change my fuel filter tomorrow. Anything I need to pay particular attention to while doing this?

Release the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail, have a few rags ready, and wear safety glasses. When removing the filter, twist as you pull as some are harder then others to disconnect. When installing, pay attention to the flow arrow.

A safer method is to start the engine and pull either the relay or fuse for the fuel pump until the engine stalls. The advantage of this is that you're burning off the fuel pressure and not spilling gas on the engine.
It was an ignition coil. 2 of them to be specific. The CEL came on today. One coil I expected, it was an old one.The other was the dreaded no.4.That coil had been replaced when the plug blew out 3 months ago. After further inspectiion, I saw it was covered in anti freeze. Crappola! The vee is dry. I have watched the video of the water pump hose bypass. Where does the rear of the water pump hose connect to? Any Pics? I think it may be ether leaking directly on top of the coil pack, or running down from not much higheron the hose. Any suggestions?
