fuel filter change

I just tried to change the fuel filter on a 06 f150,followed instructions that were posted here, but could not get fuel line off of filter. Now I have another problem, the service engine light is on(wasn't prior).Any suggestion for either of these would be greatly appreciated!

you may have lossened the line and the fuel light would mean theres low fuel pressure

Sometimes it takes alot of force to push in the tool to get the line to release.

I was afraid to push to hard,in case I broke something. The instructions on this forum said that it shouldn't take too much force to get the tool in.

which end is giving you fits?

the compression end, or the one with the annoying little blue clip?

if it's the compression end...well they can be a bear sometimes.
1. You have to hold the Fuel filter and the fuel line tight against each other.
there should be no slop...if there is, the disconnect tool won't release the little prongs
2. Then slip the line disconnect tool in there..you'll feel the disconnect tool "pop" into place. might take a bit of effort though.
the "pop" you feel will be the little prongs releasing
3. then you pull the fuel filter apart from the fuel line. it's something you really need 3 hands for to do easily

hope you've read up on that little blue clip...nasty little bugger that was stupidly designed IMO

I don't know if you have a Superchips programmer or one like it but they read DTC trouble codes and also clears them. It comes in handy but they are expensive. I got my Superchips Flashpaq on Ebay for $200.

If I remember correctly with my 05', it does help to have three hands. Really though, the filter should be tight in the bracket so with one hand have the tool over the line(I believe the bigger of the two ends on the tool). With the other hand push the line toward the filter to take up any slack, push the tool toward the line connection kinda hard and you should feel it sink in and/or a click, pull the line away from the filter with the tool in place and it should come off. I'm sure you have it off by now, just thought I would give my history with the filter. I've done my 3 times now.

A couple of questions:
1. How often should the filter be changed, I normally run Top Tier gas and injector cleaner at least at every oil change.

2. Can the tool be bought at most auto parts stores and what is approx. cost.

3. Are there precautions/preperations that need to be done first to prevent gas from going everwhere?

I have never changed my own filter, always had it done by the dealer or mechanic. Last one ran $120.00 to do it about 1 year ago. Would like to do it myself if I don't have to take a gas bath!

I had my transmission flushed and a new fuel filter installed for $170.00. I thought that was a pretty good deal. The fuel filter change by itself was $50.

you can try completely disconnecting your battery for about a minute and see if that resets the code, your truck may be to new for that though

1. normal operating conditions every 30,000. Fuel cleaner wont help with the dirt that gets picked up and trapped in the filter.

2. Yes most auto parts carry them, bought a plastic set for $8.00.

3. Let my truck sit overnight removed gas cap then put it back on. When I removed the lines only a dribble came out.
