Revs high then stalls when started cold (sometimes)
Not an emergency or anything. But my truck started doing this last fall where it would rev up then stumble and almost die when started cold (sometimes it would die. You could start it right back up and it would always run fine on the 2nd start.
It didn't do it all the time, maybe 1/5 starts or something. It seems like it was more likely to do it after sitting for longer periods of time, and when the weather got colder. I did pull and clean the IAC valve last fall, but it didn't change anything.
My truck has been parked for a few months now for the winter, but I did start it up once in mid January when we had a short thaw between spells of subzero temperatures, then took it for a short trip up and down the driveway and did a couple 3 point turns in the Y part of our driveway and reparked it just to put a different part of the tires on the ground.
Anyway, it did the rev & stall routine that time, and I am planning on starting it and moving it again probably today when I get home since the next couple days are supposed to be above freezing again. I expect the truck to do the same thing again today when I start it.
What would cause the truck to do this? I have checked for stored codes and there are none.
So after a bit of reading, I'm thinking that it's the TPS. As this seems to be a common symptom. Only thing that has me wondering, is that many people say they also have drivability issues as well when they have a bad TPS. None have developed so I'm not sure.
