Back in 2010 right after I got my truck it was one of the ones that made the strange moaning sound from the turbo. The sound just went away and I haven't ever heard it again. I'm not sure if this is related or not but a couple of days ago when I started it up it was cold so it started roaring at 1200 rpm and making a high pitched whining sound. I revved it up just a bit and it stopped. Last night when I got home and hopped out to check the mail, it was making a high pitch but much quieter whine at idle.
No visual obstructions to fan belt etc. sounds like its coming from the turbo.
I had a bad turbo. It made a whirring kind of sound, vibration was only noticeable when I would rev the engine up and then take my foot off the throttle quickly. The sound was mostly made as the turbo/engine was returning from high rpm back to idle.
Strangely as cold as it's been this year, mine has not made the "owl" sound much which would normally be a daily cold start occurrence and no table saw noises, which that sound has only happened a few times.
That is the sound that it used to make. It mysteriously just stopped doing that just like it stopped the intermittent cutting out right before going into regen like it used to do.
I will get a video when it does it again.
The truck has already had a new radiator, new EGR cooler, new power steering pump, bad sensor, leaking oil pan... Why not have another issue. Truck has 33,500 miles
