New turbo, new sound

New turbo, new sound
So I got the van turbo with the 1.15 exhaust housing put on the other day and it's been making this new sound that I haven't heard before. It's really hard to describe but the best way I can think of to describe it is that it sounds like high pitched, hollow, tinny whistle/vibration? I pulled the turbo back off, took it apart, retorqued all the bolts and checked for any play or signs of rubbing and none were present. Will the larger housing make a difference in sound then the stock turbo or even a 1.0 housing? Outside of the sound, it drives good so far and I haven't noticed anything else weird. Thanks guys.

I have the stock turbo in my van and the turbo sounds somewhat normal, no high pitched sound, now... It is right under the doghouse under the shotgun side cup holder. I wrapped my entire SS Magnaflow exhaust from the turbo/flange clamp to the 5" tip including the Muffler and it removed the drone sound and the down-pipe turbulence sound, maybe that's what your hearing. The high volume of air moved with the 88MM kinda makes an annoying pitch that would give me a headache after 20 minutes of driving. It happened right after I installed the 4" SS Magnaflow exhaust.
So the 2" Thermo-Tec Header Tape Wrap did the trick, now All I hear is turbo whistle at the turbo and the whistle out the tip of the exhaust. The Round Magnaflow muffler was also wrapped with the 2" tape. I wrapped it well, it says to lap the tape about 1/4" to 1/2" from the edge. My friend told me to just wrap the tape as much as I want as it will not hurt anything. I have the extended van and it's 19'6" long and it used 3 Boxes of 50' tape and 2 boxes of the Stainless snap-clamps.
By far the best Mod I did to my ride that gives me a nice quiet ride inside the cab. My Van was custom built from day 1 and I have 3 layers of Dynamat, Dynaliner and Dynapad on the walls, floor and ceiling. The doghouse is also lined with heat proof Dynapad/liner, the foil type. It's quiet like a Lexus inside the van now, considering it has a 7.3L in it.
So I believe if you wrap your system you won't look back. Mine has been on for 9 years now, no problems. It still looks new too, the rig has not left Florida and the undercarriage is still like new, no salt on the roads etc.
[ I think that (2) 50' Boxes would do the job if you were careful and did a small lap. But I can remember there was a little left over on the 3rd. box. You can always return the 3rd. box if you don't use it. This info was in edit. ]
All the best,
Russ
