I straight-piped my truck a few weeks ago and I now notice a harsh harmonic when I release the accelerator. Not sure if it's just because I hear the turbo more since I straight-piped it or what. It's not the same type of sound as when I hear the turbo spooling down when I shut the truck off. Just wondering if you guys think I should inspect the turbo for excess play or if it's normal and I'm just not used to hearing it.
I also have a whining sound when I get off the throttle. This is my first diesel so I dont know if it is normal. It started when I did the 6637 and 4" turbo back. Do you think its normal? How would I check the turbo?
So guys, I checked the turbo today. It was bitter sweet.
Look what I found. Luckily the turbo was unharmed and apparently I caught it early.
I put duct tape on it for a temporary fix, but am looking for a permanent fix now. Taping the whole has eliminated the turbo noise I was hearing, so if you are hearing turbo noise and are unsure I would recommend looking for something too. Better safe than sorry.
