6.0 jerking problems
hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and was wondering if anyone could help me on the problems I'm having with my 2007 6.0 diesel. I do have a lot of miles on the truck but keep good oil, filters, and service on the truck regularly. After I start the truck it runs ruff until it warms up. Just a little white smoke comes out at start up only. I'm loosing no water. When i get around 65mph the truck will start to jerk then eventually smooth out. my gas milage has drop down also. I have replaced the egr and put a half shell in the ficm. I checked the batteries and cables. All are good. The ficm still only gives around 42 to 43 volts. Check engine light is on also. I havent got the codes yet. Any ideas on what it could be ? I would also like to buy a diagnostic coder. Does anyone have an idea on a good code reader that want hurt the pocket book to bad?

The code will likely set you off in the right direction. FICM is going away though.
As far as code readers, if you have a smart phone check out DashBoss for iPhone or the Torque app for android. If you have a laptop around the house I can recommend a free software program called FORScan. You'll need a OBDII adapter for whichever option you use. Amazon has good prices on ELM adapters except for iPhone. Check the DashBoss sight for those. As far as a handheld mechanic type scanner I can't make any recommendations. The first only one I bought wouldn't do "live" data which I found out very quickly I wanted. So your looking for CAN bus compliant with freeze frame and live data capability on those.

Torque Pro with bluetooth OBDII adapter $25. Don't waste $140 on a ScanGauge II. FICM volts are low.

EBP sensor info is used buy the PCM to operate turbo (among other things). It mounted on a hard line that comes off the driver side exhaust manifold. It's worth a shot to remove it and clean it as it can get clogged up with exhaust soot. Inspect the electrical connector and wiring, clean the sensor, and push something down the tube to make sure it's clear. A piece of weed wackier line seems to be the tool of choice.
