That was my next question. From what I've read, 9.5:1 is around the max CR with open chamber heads correct? What kind of Hp/torque could you expect from an engine with TMI pistons and some porting work on the heads? Also, what are the specs on the "pantera" cam? Do you happen to know how much the kit costs? Its not listed on his website.
Yes, my understanding is 9.5:1 is basically it. But you don't have many options in pistons. Actually, one IIRC.
As for the cam, I don't know the spec's on that cam. But, don't get the cart before the horse as that cam may not be right for you. And Tim's the one you want to ask. The reason I say that is that cam was designed for engines with aluminum heads which allow 10.5:1 compression and have higher flow rates - especially on the exhaust side. So it probably isn't right for your engine with a stock head and lower compression, even with porting. But, again, buy all your stuff from Tim and let him pick the cam.
Oh, yeah definitely wouldn't be for my application then! I ask because that idle is spot on to my ear Like you said, Ill just have to give Tim a call when the time comes, hopefully soon! Reading about the 400 rebuilds on this forum really make me want to tear into mine! Thanks for all your help! Look forward to hearing results from your build!
. Since you're just going to sell the truck you're currently working on, I'd just put it together with what you have and a stock cam... won't be any worse than stock and prolly a might better...
