Reading through instructions...
Hey guys, I was looking over the instructions last night for installing my trick flows on the 400.
"Coat the threads with Permatex 3H aviation form-a-gasket"
I know the bolts are sealed from coolant, what would the reason be for the 3H? every SBC( I know daaaa) I have built I have done this but not on a ford.
Thoughts? reasoning? insanity?
Thanks guys
Curtis

Don't know. I'd use engine oil on the threads. Maybe a good idea if you didn't have to re torque the bolts after warm up but not really necessary. Are the new heads alloy (excuse my ignorance)? Id check with Trick flow unless someone has used them before.
As you know, some sbc head bolts are in the water jacket - hence the need for form-a-gasket.
Your 400 head bolts are "blind," as you know, so unless you're using ARP bolts, which need their proprietary bolt goop, I'd use motor oil on 'em.

Yes the heads are aluminum, nice facny paper weights as of right now
. Yeah a phone call to a good friend, ford builder and a long conversation about my 400 and the 408 clevor he is building came out yes just ARP goop on the ARP bolts.
I can't wait to see that clevor run, CHI 3v single carb, believe he said something like 15:1, 700something lift cam, had some chebby guys talking he said new engine time. Milan all motor class I can't wait to see it in action, rather see a full cleveland but he likes his clevors.
