I heard that lumber companies in Colorado weren't allowed to harvest the dead trees....that the environmental rules required that the trees be allowed to fall and rot. It looks good in your truck!!
They only leave them standing to protect the live trees. The bugs would rather eat the dead ones, and the woodpeckers have much more to eat and don't go and peck up the live ones.

I've been using the pine beetle kill for lots of projects, including the
veneers on my new home-made garage doors.
You just have to remember tho, it's pine. It's really soft and scars and dents easily. Don't go throwing a log chain back there...slim
