My '72 Camper Special has a 360, and I'd like headers and duals. The previous owner said it had headers, but only a compact starter would fit. Are there headers I can get that allow the stock starter to fit?
Jay, All of the FE blocks 352/360/360 are the same on the outside, while header fitment isn't an issue, removal of a full size starter is. I have Hooker long tubes and have had to remove bolts to allow header to swing out to remove the starter. I now have a reflector blanket on my starter to hopefully last longer & so far it has.
There are shorties available now that should eliminate the starter issue. Not sure maybe Sanderson, check it out at Summit Racing.
Because of the limited tube space; any headers I looked at come very close to the OEM starter which WILL cook the starter eventually.
I had to replace the starter on my recently purchased 74 F100 w/360 FE and headers. Because I needed the truck on the road I went with OEM style starter and heat wrap.
When the weather here in Washington improves I'll be getting a small, high torque, heat soak resistant starter from these guys.

I understand the principle but how do you wrap a starter with the blanket? Do you put it on after it is mounted and what keeps it on there?
There are several brands of thermal wraps and some of them come as kits with metal retaining bands (Sort of like huge hose clamps).
As far as the installation, it just takes a little tuck and scooch to get the blanket on after the starter is installed ALTHOUGH you may be able to put it on before. I wasn't in an ideal install spot (gravel driveway) so I didn't want to put it on the starter body only to find I had some interference somewhere.
I got mine off the shelf at NAPA.
For example purposes here is a link of the offerings from JEGS, but I'd check the NAPA store if there is one close by. Mine was $30ish USD.
