Hello,
I am really stuck here, I have a 1977 ford f250 with the 351M and all stock really nothing done to it, I have to get the truck smoged so I went threw and cleaned everything up and repainted everything and replaced the pcv valve and egr valve and a list of new things including a new carb, during this entire evolution I got done with everything and now the truck will not start. I have dune timing and used the timing marks and I have put the thing at almost every mark and I can not get a pop at any of them I had read that it was a good to put it at about 19 degrees BTDC and I still get nothing.; I have tried almost every thing I know how to do and I still get nothing. I am out of ideas and I have been working on it or about two months now and I really need to get it figured out anyone have any ideas, this is my first time using one of these post things so bare with me.
Have you checked to make sure you are getting good spark and good fuel supply? I am a certified auto tech who happens to love these old Fords have a 77 F250 myself along with a few Ford Falcon projects on the go , I will be happy to help as much as i can. Its not unheard of for the electronic control box to crap out suddenly?
Yes it is getting spark and getting good fuel, I have not checked the module box yet, is there a way to check that to see if it is still good or do you just have to get a new one?
If your getting good spark the module is good, little confused so you have good spark and good fuel supply and its not doing anything ? Not firing at all no popping back through the carb or exhaust.
Oh ok, and yes it has been popping back threw the carb, only a few times but most of the time it just turns over and will kind act like it is starting to fire and kind of speed up a little and then it will pop threw the carb and slow down again. this will only happen if I press the gas pedal all the way down, if not it will just constantly turn over
Sounds to me like you're out of time. Did you change the plug wires? Are you sure you got them back on correctly? Could you have it 180 degrees out of time?
I have changed all the spark plug wires and I double and triple checked them to make sure they where on correctly. during the hundreds of times I re checked timing I took the valve cover off to make sure I was on track and on the number one cylinder and would only get popping back threw the carb and that is the extent of it, although one time it did fire and run for a few minutes only at full throttle and died off again and since then I have not gotten anything out of it just popping.
Has to be a timing issue since you mentioned you had the valve cover off, are the valves opening and closing fully? You also mentioned you have checked the dist placement and wires not sure what has been done to this engine but if your dist is 100% correct and wired correctly there is not much left but internal engine components ie timing chain correct phasing no missing or chipped teeth stretched chain etc on the gears or possibly deeper in the heart ie cam lobes bent pushroads
