360/c6, ps,pb,front disk conversion, Mallory Unilite dist. w/vac. adv..
1- I have spark
Also installed new Autolites.
2-Checked static timing. Good.
3-I have gas at carb., fuel sprays inside when throttled.
I rebuilt the carb just to be on the safe side.
4-Installed new fuel pump w/ filter.
5-Cold compression test. from 95 to 115psi, except #7 cyl.=82 psi.This still within 25% tolerance, Right?
No open vacuum lines.
I'm stuck. Anyone have any suggestions besides... fire.
It just cranks. No backfire. No sputter. What amI missing?

I agree; fuel, spark, and timing and you should be good. Try spraying carb cleaner in the top of the carb while cranking it, if it starts you know you aren't getting fuel and you can focus on that. Otherwise it has to be your timing or spark. Did you get the wires switched around when you installed the new plugs?
How many miles on that 72? Could it still have those nylon timing gears?
About the least invasive thing to do next is pull the valve cover of the #1 cyl and check for distibutor postition against TDC on the compression stoke.
Um, you were wanting to put shining new valve cover gaskets on, weren't ya?
i have to go along with moonley....try spraying some carb cleaner in carb throat while someone is cranking and see if she hits off. if it does start you are not getting enough fuel,if not then more than likely it is a timing issue.the timing chain may have gotten out of time..it's happened to me before and had the same symptoms you talked about
have you checked the timing? did you by chance get the plug whires crossed? have you checked to make sure the dizzy is turning while cranking engine over? just a few ideas before you start ripping her apart
Replaced the timing set. It does the same thing. It starts,
then floods. Fuel comes from the float bowl vent tubes. This same symtom w/ 2 rebuilt carbs., one by me, one by Holley. It's a 2100 2v. Anybody have any ideas?
do you mean it starts up and then stalls out and the carb floods out and then will not restart?? if so sounds like the float adj is not right and is causing the flooding
i agree it sounds like your float is stuck.......holly doesnt oil anything from the factory so you might need to just put a little oil on the float pin so it stops flooding
take of the air horn and make sure the keeper is holding the float down. its a spring and it snaps onto the float-needle seat.the adj. might be right but if the keeper aint holding it down it will just flood.
The float is on the money, adjusted it dry 9/64" and wet 1/4". Not sinking or sticking.
The fuel pressure is @ 5 to 5.5psi. New Carter non sealed.
I installed another new seat and needle valve, (3rd set)
It still floods, fuel pours out of float bowl vents. Only after letting it dry out for a day or two, will it start. Then she runs about 10 seconds, then the flooding begins.
She has new Autolite 45 spark plugs set to spec..
Can something other than the fuel system cause it to back up? The fuel system is working perfectly, now what?
A bad power valve will let them start but they flood as they run. Won't idle.
But if you've rebuilt the carb the power valve would have been taken care of during the rebuild , right?
