My truck will not start...It's a 1983 F250 6 cyl (inline).....So far I have bought..Spark plugs which all get spark from the wires (tested that today) a brand new distributor cap and rotor, a fuel filter and a fuel pump and after priming the carb..It still will not start.......I do have gas in it by the way.....one member on here suggested I get a carb rebuilt (dunno how to do that myself) but if the truck doesn't run..then how do i get it to a shop? I don't know too many mechanics who make house calls..I am getting very frustrated...Besides a stick of dynamite....any suggestions? .Thank You..
IF YOU HAVE SPARK ( AT THE RIGHT TIME) FUEL, AND COMPRESSION, THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT NOT TO RUN.
i WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU MAY BE USING TOO MUCH GS TO PRIME IT WITH
AND ISN'T AN 83 FUEL INJECTED?
TRY USING A LITTLE STARTING FLUID IN THE AIR INTAKE SEE IF IT FIRES ON THAT IF IT DOES THEN QUITS YOU HAVE A FUEL PROBLEM
IF IT DOES NOT START AT ALL CHECK SPARK AGIAN
IF THAT FAILS LOOK FOR VACUME LEAKS AND FUEL PRESSURE
HOPE IT HELPS
If you're getting spark (and the timing's right), then it seems it must be the carburetor. Have you checked the choke? A rebuild of the carb would probably be good for it. If you could get the carb off, you could probably take it to a shop. I believe there's only 4 bolts. A Haynes manual would probably help you remove it (and would help with many things with the truck).
83 six cylinder...Carter YFA 1 barrel carb, two bolts hold it on, these had problems leaking under the gasket or getting loose(bowl to base), and choke sticking open. Do you have compression? Are the new plugs wet? Tried madman's ether suggestion? Check timing with a timing light while cranking to verify? Is the spark output strong enough?
Thanks Guys....I do have gas leaking under the gasket...noticed it yesterday after putting on the fuel pump but I thought my buddy had spilled a little bit while priming the carb. This does look like I need a carb rebuild. I will re-check the plugs for wetness etc....I have the Chiltons repair and tune up guide for pickups 1965-'86 so I guess I will try to remove the carb and get a rebuild done on it. Wish me luck guys he he he.....
theres only 2 bolts on the carb on a inline six i have one and it starts but dosent stay running for very long inless you keep your foot on the accelerator
