The first one from a bronco should be mated to trans, and second one is bolted to trans. But for $600 bucks you're out of your mind. These transfer cases rarely go bad unless they are run without oil. They are virtually indestructible.
Look locally, craigslist or a super deal on eBay. This thing weighs like 80 pounds. It costs a fortune to ship. So figure that into your purchase price.
Just keep looking.
Have you found a 4x4 aod yet. They are in 1/2 ton trucks from early 80s to late 80s.

No not yet. Gonna try and hit the salvage yards one afternoon this week. How many bolts does the AOD pan have for easy id?
From my understanding it's the frame rail spacing that's the problem. Bronco frames are just a lot narrower than most truck frames. To fit a wider t.case in you'd need to offset the driveline to the right, clock the t.case down, or notch out the frame to make clearance. Any of those is a BIG project to get anywhere close to reasonable, and I wouldn't recommend any of them.

I definitely agree on not offsetting driveline or notching frame. Not worth the trouble! Just trying to think outside the box.
NP205 is a single stick transfer case. You can modify it to be a twin stick easily though.
The 78-9 will be an np205. 80 was the start of the np208. Click on that fordification link again and review what vehicles the np205 came in and it's identification features for when the guy sends pics to you.
A new aod would be fine if it's in the budget.
Research some junkyards or salvage yards in your area. There's gotta be someplace that has older trucks.
