If you've already got the radiator out, it will be even easier than usual to replace the pump. I did it on mine with the radiator in, and it was no problem at all.
one more thing, should i look to particular brand? or they all the same?
I can only speak from my own experience, but I used an off-the-shelf replacement from NAPA. It's served me well for the last two years, as have almost all parts I've ever bought from them.
Matthew,
Does this engine have any WP bolts that go into the jacket?
Do they need sealant to keep from corroding in place?
As in, are the bolts exposed to coolant inside the engine? I don't believe so, although I don't recall looking for that specifically. The replacement instructions didn't mention anything about that...the bolts I removed didn't appear to be treated in any special way, and I didn't treat them when I put them back in.
I did mine with napas shelf option, the cast iron pump they had for like $28. Worked out just fine. Didnt put sealant on any of the bolts, personally. If your gonna have the water pump out as well, consider changing the thermostat. I didnt and managed to get it out with the new pump on, after I had a problem with overheating, but it would have been alot easier with the pump off. Typically you change the thermostat when you change the pump.
Thank you for the hands-up! I changed my thermostat last year as a first suspect
good idea, it was why I was overheating for sure. didn't account for the gallons of antifreeze that pump and lower hose were spitting out though, in my case.
