I order to perform the Cody test, should I make up some fittings to hook the air supply to or is just using a rubber tipped air nozzle with a rag sufficient?

Rubber-tipped nozzle and a rag has worked for me on tests similar to this.

I think I'd make up a threaded fitting and then attach a QC to it....hands off then so you could mosey around looking/listening.

Anybody know what the thread is in the head? I could whip up some threaded adapters.

I'll have to go look at mine...I was thinking more of removing the adapter from the head and installing the air adapter.

Rubber tipped air gun works fine. I remove the lines from the side of the HPOP and hold the gun in tight with a rag over it. A fitting would be nice, but a bit of overkill. It would be nice, don't get me wrong, but you still are going to have to use a rag when disconnecting if you don't have a leak.

It isn't hard to hold the tip with 120-150psi in there tight. You squeeze the trigger a couple of times and wait a few seconds in between each squeeze, while it is pushing the oil and listen for air to leak. If you keep hitting the trigger and no movement, then there is no leak. If you hit it a few times and more air is needed, there is a leak and soon you will hear it. If it's on the passenger side, you should take the oil filler cap off, it helps you hear it, and if there is a leak, you will see smokey vapor coming out of the filler tube.

Not sure of size. I took the fitting to a local hydraulic hose shop and they made me a hose to fit my pump.

If you've replaced your HPOP hoses, and kept the the old ones (I never throw anything out), you can cut the old line and put an an air hose fitting on it. That wouldn't be too much trouble, and no PAP smears.

Getting ready to perform the Cody Test. I know must of you have said to remove the Hight Pressure oil supply line to the head. Is there a reason why I can't use one of the other oil rail plugs for the test? I can't think of a reason why I can't but I thought I would confirm my thinking with the experts.

Thanks in advance,

Brice

By removing the HPOP line, at the HPOP, then you are only providing compressed air into that particular cylinder head. By removing a plug in the head, I would expect that the air would bleed out through the HPOP. But I'm only guessing here.

If I'm right, then having an HPx installed would require isolating the other HPOP line as well. But others will need to confirm this.

Yeah, you want to remove the HPOP from the equation because the IPR will allow for the pressure to bleed back down into the oil pan, and then you might be chasing a leak that doesn't exist. Ask me how I know...

I figured I was thinking about something in the equation.
