I would guess also you do/did not have the white clip on all the way and the cable is slipping in and out of the collar? Swap back in the KPH and that will tell you if its a gauge cluster or the cable issue. If you did not remove it from the trans then should not have any issues down there.
Never thought about the clip not being seated. Guess I'll just have to put it back in and pay attention a little better and see what happens. Thanks for the advice...
My 76 bronco starts jumping erratically at about 60 mph. It also seems worse when it is cold...really weird. The odometer however seems completely Un affected by the jumping. Good luck.
My speedometer went crazy above 30 mph . I replaced the cable and housing . Cable was too long so I took it to a speedometer shop . He shortened the cable . Still goofy acting . So I had the speedometer rebuilt .He told me that the jewel and the magnets wear out on Fords . Everything back together now and working .

Who rebuilt your speedometer (company??) and how much did he charge? Does it work flawlessly now, without jumping around? Mine jumps around too. What is the cause of this?
