Thanks for the input. I think perhaps its time to pull it apart. 3000 isn't gonna get it hooked to the sled next summer. For now I guess I'll toss a new gerotor at it and baby it till spring.
I was assuming there were performance pumps out there. Looked at RIVER CITY, no dice... oil change and motorcraft filters?...
Back when breaking LPOP's from excessive RPM's was a problem Elite diesel used to offer them, but I haven't seen this problem in 8 years. Breaking/destruction of LPOP gears normally only occurs when a lifter fails and a roller bearing goes through it (or someone drops a bolt down through the head).
He said Motorcraft filters in the post prior to yours.
Josh
Your point is what? Original poster is not.... using Motorcraft filters. I listed items that can lead to breaking a set and I think high RPM's did seem to point in the direction of why.
Just to clarify guys, I build big block ford pulling engines so of course the basics are.... the basics. Love the truck, have since new. Its a bit of a legend around these parts. I would think if I was getting much crank walk I'd be breaking the outer gerotor as well.

Oh god, yeah none of that going on! Ive got to believe I'm shock loading the crank on the gear crushing shifts...

All the guys I know that had this problem WAY back in the day solved it by doing the bottom end. It seems to be an 03/04 motor RPM related problem and they were low mileage motors. I've never seen it on the late 04 and up motors UNLESS something went through the gerotor. Just for grins and giggles, every time I'm in my motor for something major I change the LPOP because it's cheap insurance.
While I suppose that's always a possibility. Ive got to be honest I've thrashed this truck mercilessly since it was new. It doesn't see a fraction of the abuse it used to.... of course its no longer new either. What are the "accepted" routes for tuning now? And will I need a reflash due to the bully dog?
I have never used the system you have but I know RPM's and high boost. Look around for or maybe the guys that pull can give you some direction on an SCT custom tuner that works with the sled pullers.
You want a curve where the RPM, Boost and shifting all work to keep you in the peak curve. If you wing it (4100) the boost falls off, shift to soon the engine loses momentum, ect. In your case as a manual truck, clutches play a big part and stock, would not even be a choice.
