I am doing alot of fun custom work to my 86 4x4 I am looking for a set of rims for the back to give it duels. Has anyone heard of a place that either sells conversion kits for this or has the duel rims.
I understand I have to install longer lug bolts atleast. But has anyone seen this on a ranger?
I actually found a company that sells wheel adapters it will botl right on and no fender cutting. also they sel in the kit fender flares designed for the ford ranger.
My 1986 for ranger has lock out hubs and so the duels will only affect the transfer case when it is rarely locked in. also I Just put in a 4 speed yes i said 4 speed. Rangers dont offer a 4 speed option but i found a 4 speed and interchanged the bellhousing...this was done for torque and man let me tell you the 4 speed granny low gears on the 2.9 liter are awsom..However top speed is 65 but its great in the woods and threw the mud. So the duels will only give me more stability for cornering and towing but will let me haul alittle weight. I also plan on adding extra leafs anf overload springs. I plan on pulling a car trailer with it.so this i feel will be a good addition
Adding all the springs and tires you want doesn't change some very important factors. Perhaps most important is the fact that you still have the same brakes. Getting the truck to stop safely is more important than getting it sit level with a load on it. Also, the axle itself has a weight rating for a reason.
Think about it for a minute. If a manufacturer only had to add heavier springs and dual tires to their lightest trucks to increase payload, why would they go to the expense of making heavier duty trucks?
