You Won't believe this!

Been pretty cold in Southern MD this past week. So I remote start my X when it was 8°F outside. Now the ONLY fuel pump I have on my X is an AirDog 2. When I got in the X, I saw no fuel pressure on my pillar gauge and the AD2 no pressure yellow warning light was on. The X was still running and running smooth. That was a head scratcher. So I dropped it in gear and away I went. For 4 days drove it like that and finally Sunday it qiut. Would try to start but just would not catch. That I attributed to getting the p2285 ICP code. Replaced the ICP yesterday while it was 55°F. Tried to start and still had no gauge or lite fuel pressure indications. Check the AD2 fuse and it was blown. Replaced the fuse and I got fuel pressure and a good start.

HOW DID IT RUN FOR 4 DAYS WITH NO FUEL PRESSURE???????

Any ideas?

Ed

The injectors are capable of pulling fuel by themselves without a pump.

Yeah, as soon as I back tracked what happened, the lite went on. I was surprised that even under a fairly hard accel, it did not bog down or stop. Thanks for the info.

Just an FYI running them that way is by far the worst thing you could do.

Another question is why did the fuse blow.

Pump trying to push gelled fuel.

I forgot to cycle the pump the last time I changed fuel filters, it started and ran with less than 5lbs fuel pressure.

I'm not sure. I'm guessing the AD2 with a smaller micron filter and it being 8°F outside made it hard to push the diesel. It was 9° this morning and started right up showing 90 psi fuel pressure. That eventually dropped back to 70 psi.

Low fuel pressure is one of the leading causes of fuel injector failure.
