So about a week ago I backed in my driveway and smelt like something was burning couldn't tell if it was the truck or not so I figured ill see if it does it again. Last night went to my parents and while backing into their driveway I could smell it in the cab and outside the truck bad. drove the truck home no smells on the highway stopped before going in reverse got out of the truck and no smell. back into my driveway and smell it burning.
I pulled the trans dipstick and no smell from the fluid and it is still red.
I tried searching and couldn't find anyone else with this issue.. could this be the control module making the smell? or is it the start of the trans about to crap out?
Only mods I have are a 4 inch exhaust and the SCT street tune.
Total guess but maybe something electrical, related to shift selector switch or backup light circuit? Engine torques against mounts the other way in reverse, maybe a harness that's close to exhaust or hot side turbo plumbing touching when in reverse. Or, maybe your pressing the skinny pedal too hard and it's the tires your smelling.
well I wish it was the tires lol, I let the truck back in with just idle more than enough power to move itself... since I am too scared to trust the girlfriend to assist me with out running me over I am going to check into deeper tomorrow when I can get some help.. was curious if someone had something similar happen to them to give me something to go check directly and hopefully get lucky... smells like it might be electrical it was hard to tell, couldn't see anything smoking though
A possibility is a dragging brake. This is easy enough to find. Just feel each wheel and see if one is warmer than the others. The brake rotor will also be extremely hot.
I don't think so bc I don't know what a ccv bypass is?

first thing I checked, and it only does it in reverse when backing up 10 feet into the driveway. No smell when driving on highway.
