2001 4x4 5.4L. Dont know what tranny it has. This tranny was just put it my truck like 7000 miles ago, it was used with 67k miles on it. Had a buddy get stuck tonight so i came to the rescue, i thought. Got myself stuck in the process, tried to get it out for a while which involved trying to rock it. Had another friend come pull me out and he got me out. I went back in to try to pull out the first guy, got hooked up to him, and no reverse. When it is put in reverse, the reverse lights come on, but the wheels dont spin at any rpm's. Messed with it a little, then it locked in reverse, tires spun, then stopped again. Now i have no reverse whatsoever, and a whining sound from what i think is the tranny, that i can hear when slowing down. Wont reverse in 2wd or 4wd. Friend of mine said these trucks are known for having the reverse gear "fall off". Any knowledge on this? Thanks.
you rocking the trans probably fried reverse.sounds like the reverse clutch pack is fried.the support bushing could be worn allowing drum contact on the pump support causing the reverse sealing rings to seize .time to tear it down and repair the failed components.getting stuck or trying to pull someone out thats stuck usually ends up with someone going to a trans shop.good luck
Update. When i try to start my trck the first time or 2 it just clicks once. After about the third time it starts right up. Could i have burnt up a wire somewhere that could be causing both these issues?
reverse has nothing electrical.it is a all hydraulic gear.if the trans was completely disconnected you would still have reverse.is the fluid burt smelling
So do yall think it would be a good idea to replace the tranny fluid and filter before i take it in tomorow so they cant say i abused it or anything and dont replace it? The fluid is most def. burnt. Is burnt fluid normal if something like that happens to my tranny?
