Hello to everyone on this site, just joined last nite,I posted a question but it didnt show up so here it goes again,I have a 1997 f 350 that I just bought not long ago, well anyway the other day we went for a ride to a shooting range when I went to back up I had no reverse, had to put it 4 wheel drive to get it to back up,after about 3 hours of target shooting we left and thought that reverse was gone but after it cooled off it had reverse again,it shifts just fine in foward, what would cause this,
me either, when it comes to deisel,I drag raced harleys for a number of years, and the truck dont have a harley trans in it so I need to find out what makes them do the things they do
haha the weird thing is that it didn't slip in 4 wheel... that's what's got me stumped maybe somethin's up with the rear diff? idk i'm just throwin ideas out there and tryin to keep this on the top of the page
it does seem to have a bit of rear rear wear,ya know how you can kinda feel the gears meshing its a bit hard to explain, but it generally called backlash,my ford 150 has had the same rear symtom for the last 65000 miles so it may not be that either,
on my f 350 crewcab I just turned 113000,its a 97 with a 4" skyjacker susp lift 35" pro com extreems on mickey thomson wheel, aftermarket intake pioneer sound sys,and a 15"flatscreen between the seats, the 150 has 210000 and still runs great gas motor and a few do dads but mostly a work truck
I am not an auto guy but I saw posted the other day that your tranny heats up very quick in reverse the 4wd thing throws me too, doesn't make sense, but auto trannys are not logical any way
when I posted my question,I should have said when the trans is up to normal operating temp, the trans goes into reverse fine when I first start it up,drive an hour or so and then I have little to no reverse,
that's really weird... have you ever flushed your rear diff?? maybe all the fluids are too old and watery so once it heats up it thins out and for some reason only slips in reverse???? idk i'm still just throwin ideas out there haha
