After doing more research I'm kinda worried it might be too cool now I heard in cold temps it may actually hurt the trans just like running your truck hard with out warming it up
I just got one at NAPA (listed for '78 F250). It was the kit version so it has rubber line, hose barbs and hard line adapter. It was their largest of 3 sizes and I'm confident it will meet my needs. ~$100 my price.
It has nice flanges so I can fab a mount. I don't want to tie strap it to the radiator.
That sounds like the ones I bought. I did use the nylon straps to mount both of mine....they are both still doing just fine after more than 15 years. I actually never thought the radiators would last that long without needing to be pulled.
you might be able to fabricate a bypass mechanism with a couple valves like were used on the old auxiliary fuel tanks and some of the proper rated fluid line material.......
Or, make a easily removable cover that could block the front side of the tranny cooler, and mount a cab tranny temp gauge so you know when to remove it
If you use the aux cooler inline with the in-rad cooler, you will have no issues. The fluid will be warmed by the cooler in the rad. Really not an issue though, plowing will create lots of heat. Concerns about fluid being too cool are more an issues in my climate than yours.
Yeah I was gonna use it as a stand alone unit and skip the rad. Yeah I isn't know how cold they were talking we stay in the 30's in the winter with a few cold streaks like now hovering 5-30 degrees
