TruCool trans cooler

I have seen on some of the sites that they make a seperate cooler that I think is in addition to the stock tranny cooler? They also make one that is for the V10, but is mentioned to fit in the stock location of the 7.3 and has a 33% larger capacity than the stock 7.3 tranny cooler. Which one are people using here? Seems like a small price to pay for keeping the tranny running cooler.

A lot of us are using the TruCool Max. http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=205
You will want the one without the bypass valve, there is already a valve in your truck. Place this in sequence after factory cooler in the trans return line.

Thumbs up

Another choice is the Hayden transmission cooler, I have one in front of the radiator for when i tow, and what a big differance in trans temp.I don't have to worry to much about trans temp anymore, worth every penny, Really happy with mine.

The V10 cooler would probably be enough if you don't do a lot of heavy towing, and aren't running a lot of horsepower... but it is just as expensive as the TruCool that you ADD along with your stock cooler. IMO you would be much farther ahead to plumb another cooler (be it the TruCool or another brand) in-line with your stock cooler like Hink said. If you get the v10 cooler and it's not enough cooling - you're out $115 and STILL stuck needing to add another cooler.

On Edit: Also, if I'm not mistaken, our truck use 3/8" tranny cooler lines, which isn't a standard size for a lot of coolers. I was looking at coolers at Summit, and not too many are listed for the 3/8 size.....

I purchased the kit, but you don't need to. I'm not sure what extra you get besides the directions, which you don't need. The cooler just needs to be after the factory cooler before the transmission. Get yourself some transmission hose, some clamps and a coupler so you can tap into the transmission line. That should be all you need. Very easy, there are a few pics in my gallery. I mounted in front of the support and ran the hoses out of the top. Some put the cooler behind the supports so they can run the lines out the bottom. If you have any questions, let me know.

What if you already have a cooler that came from the factory? I am planning on towing about 8500# and I see my lines seem to run from the trans to the radiator and to a cooler sandwiched between the radiator and intercooler on my Excursion.

So where are you mounting these then? I am new to my truck and waiting for quite a few parts to come in on Monday (as I was hoping they came by Friday so I could get going this weekend) so I just didn't know if there was an easy place to mount this or if I would need to make some homemade mounting brackets?

The kit comes with extra couplers, clamps, hose, bolts, etc. Everything you need to hook the cooler up.
Or, you can make a trip to your local parts house and hope you get everything you need on the first trip.
