While plowing today, the truck ended up sliding around a corner trying to avoid another oncoming plow truck. The front drivers side tire slammed into the curb and there was a loud pop. Or so the story goes. When I got there to check it out, the top one of two leaf springs is snapped in half and is bent up. Perhaps it's sprung since nothing's holding it down. So.... I'm assuming welding is a no no. Do I need to replace the pair or just the top one? And finally, should I get it from Ford, an aftermarket, or a junk yard? Thanks guys. Need to get this fixed ASAP. I have to keep using it since this truck has the working sander wired to it.
I agree with what was said above. Welding is a no go. We have a lot of people replacing one spring, good chance it'll lean but if you can live with it than it comes down to what you can afford at the time.
I'll send you a message, hopefully we can get you fixed and back to making money!
I would recommend trying to find the same code spring in the local junkyard. I bought a pair of X codes for my Excursion for $320 and all I had to do was pick them up. Down time probably being important, this may not be an option. Good luck.
I just bought new x codes to get rid of the add-a-leaf and lower the truck back down 2" and restore the stock ride. Got them from Tousley for 320.00 plus whatever the new u bolts were. Should be here today or tomorow.
