okay guys, i brought my 79 250 to a couple of spring shops. they told me to fix right rear leaf spring $280.00. and 260.00. that is expensive. I just bought the truck last week and only paid 700.00. so far i have put $200 in brakes on it. my main leaf is ok. what would be the cheapest fix for this. i am going to attemp replacing it myself. i know you get what you pay for but i am short on cash and i want to drive my new truck! where can i look online for springs?
For 280 a side you can purchase New , replacement , spring packs for your truck!!!You might want to check the Online store here on the website.............Next, I would do a Google search as there are several well known spring shops on the west coast that can fabricate new , replacement spring packs for your truck but, of course , you will have to do all the work your self......fd
First, what is wrong with your leaf springs? One broken leaf? Two? Three? Second, what does the estimate include? Parts? Labor? Tip? How is the truck to be used once the springs are replaced? Hauling? Comfort? Off-road? The next thing to check is whether the bolts are easily removable from the spring eyelets. If so, then it should be no problem to get a pair from a junk yard and make sure to buy the same width springs. If not, the bolts may be seized and may require a lot of work or some torching. {The bolts were seized on my F150 4x4 and it took my mechanic a couple of hours to remove the bolts (ultimately by torch).} Good luck.
If you only have one broken leaf you could get a leaf out of another pack in a junkyard. If you have more than one broken leaf it could mean that your entire pack is close to fatigue failure (throw it away). I have rebuilt many spring packs by "mix and match" leaves out of junk packs to build a good set. You match them for arch and try to keep two packs even. Clean the leaves well, paint them with good rust preventative paint, and get some Teflon pads to go between the leaves from a dealer.

i have 3 broken leaves. i do not car about comfort because it is my work truck. i would rather have a heavy duty spring. i was quoted that price of 280.00 for parts and labor. i think i might just order a pair from espo. i will soak the nuts on the u bolts and eye bolts with penetrant for a couple days and hopefully they come loose.
If you can't find the springs here try Eaton spring. .com I think.
Be sure to get a good set of jack stands befere you start. It's a long way up to the frame and you DO NOT want it moving around while you are under there. Regular car jacks are just not tall enough.
If you have three broken leaves your pack is shot and you need replacements. Replacements can be found in the scrapyard, or you can buy new. If you get used remember to change the bushings and figure that into the cost.
