Defroster question

I have the manual HVAC controls. 2012 XL. I have noticed a couple of oddities lately.
In Park the defroster is running at a high speed, but when I put the tranny in gear, the blower speed changes.
It could be that a door closes, or something.

And another thing is the defroster works good at removing exterior frost/ice, but leaves a large triangle in the upper left hand corner, untouched.
It takes a long time to clear that part of the windshield.
Any idea's/suggestions appreciated. Jim

When the blower speed changes, do you notice the heat "bleeding" from any other areas?

I have noticed the blower speed change too. Wonder if its related to idle speed and alternator output at all.

I would think it might be either alternator output or a change in vacuum.

No, It is usually warming up and defrosting the windshield. I put in in gear and in a few seconds, it just starts to make a lower sound. I really don't notice about the actual air output.

I have a Volt Meter for the power outlets, I'll give that a look.

Update: Volt Meter says 11.8 at key on. 14.3 after start and defroster on. During the shift that causes the blower speed change, it momentarily goes to 14.4, and then back to 14.3. Really funny.

I suspect it is something with the vacuum system.

Is the interior of the truck ice cold when you're seeing this issue? When you set it on defrost, are you feeling it full bast in defrost?

Sammy: Are IFyou asking about the frost on the windshield? Ist pix after 15 minute warmup from 0 deg. 3rd and fourth pix after another 10 minutes.

If you are asking about blower speed, then any time you shift from Park to drive.
Plenty of air apparent at all times.

There is a strategy called load shed on our trucks. Basically it helps get the interior of the cab warmer/cooler(depending on outside temp) as quick as possible, by dumping air everywhere. Even if you have the hvac in defrost. It also varies blower speed. I don't know if that's what's going on with your truck, but just food for thought. Are you still under warranty? Take the truck in and see if it set any dtc's?

Fwiw, I had a similar thing going on with my truck only when it's very cold. It's only happened twice but it was -5 and -13F both times. My windshield had frost on the inside still after 10minutes of driving and 10minutes of idling.
