A/C blower runs on high speed all of the time

Hope someone can help with this problem. I have a 2007 PSD Harley Davidson with the auto climate control. Suddenly the blower runs at high speed. The steering wheel nor the speed control in the dash seem to adjust the speed. I can see the lights in the display changing to indicate a speed change.

Thanks

Could be a wiring issue. I would have said a blower motor resistor but you cant select the speed. when resistors go out you only get high and low and medium doesnt work. but since you only have high all the time and you cant control it you would probably have more luck taking it in.

Well I'm at 60K miles. After searching the site for owners with the same or similar problem I went ahead and ordered the blower motor resistor. Now I just need to find where the resistor is located. I don't have shop manual yet, but i think I will get one soon.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have seen the blower relay go bad and it will run on high only on a car. Find it and if their is another relay of the same number you could use it to test it out before you buy a new one.

I had this exact issue happen to me on my 06 except mine would start working correctly every time i took it into the dealer, finally it continued to act up for the tech and it turned out to be the blower motor resistor/relay pack. From what i hear they are not very expensive and i am sure FTE Parts Guy would be able to hook you up.

Just in case you're not aware, the auto climate control does not use a blower motor resistor, it uses a "blower motor speed controller." I would assume that if you specified the auto climate control when you ordered the part, you would've gotten the right thing, though.

I went to Rock Auto and ordered MOTORCRAFT Part # YH1697 {#4C2Z19A706AA}. This the part number that comes up when you select the specifics of of you vehicle. My vehicle breaks down as 2007 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY HARLEY-DAVIDSON EDITION 6.0L 363cid V8 DIESEL FI Turbo (P) : Heat & Air Conditioning : Blower Motor Resistor

The only other choice in the indentured parts list is the blower motor itself. The two links provided in this thread didn't list the blower motor controller. If anyone can steer me in the correct direction to help me order the correct part if the one I ordered is incorrect I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

I've spent some time searching and I simply can't tell. When you get the part, you'll know if it's the right one. You might look at the existing blower motor speed controller and see if there is a part number on it.

This diagram is the best I could find on what it looks like and where it is.

I've seen component item#1 in the engine compartment and it's easy to get to for removal. I'm not sure why the two web sources for parts do not list blower motor controller. Here's the part number for what I believe is the blower motor controller: 6C34-19E624-AA. I'll send the other component back if it's incorrect.

Thanks for your help David!!

controller is different from the resistor. i believe. if im right i think its mounted on the evaporator housing. held in by two 8mm bolts. twords the bottom of the housing. hard to get to. thats where they are on econolines. E series and F series are very close.

dchaimberlain pointed me in the right direction. Thanks David. My local Ford dealer had the part in stock. I just finished the pop and swap. Not too hard. I removed the 3 screws holding what I believe is part of the AC system (round cylinder partially covering the BMC) and wedged a ratchet w/u-joint on an 8 inch extension to back the screws out. I took less than a half hour to get the job done.

Thanks to all that contributed to this thread.
Ford is #1 and so is FTE!!!!

Thanks for the post and info - could you post a pic of location?

I really appreciate the information too. My 2007 F350 is doing the same thing. I don't want to pay the dealership shop fee for something that sounds like a quick replacement. (I've already paid $75 to have them tell me that the problem is the blower control switch. )

Anyway, if you could post a picture of the position of where this controller is, I'd sure appreciate it, and I bet all the other F350 owners would too.

Cheers

If you can not look at the picture of the part above and look at the arrow where it is located, I believe you'd better take it to shop and let a pro do it......

Ha! That IS funny. Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I don't have Superman's X-ray vision to see that part underneath the closed hood of the Excursion/Expedition/SUV in the picture and last time I did open up the hood there's many more parts in there that look very similar (if not the same) as the one in the diagram above. So I know I would help someone by posting a picture if they'd ask, as there would be no mistake.

I remember a great post regarding the upfitter switches and everyone talking about how easy it was to attach something to them but until someone actually posted a few pics regarding the correct wires etc, it wasn't that easy to understand. Now that was helpful - and that's why I'm asking.
